Solar Eclipse Tunisia 2027: Experience the Khoussouf at Dar Jbel
On Monday, August 2, 2027, the Tunisian sky will host one of the most extraordinary celestial events of the century. This total solar eclipse, among the longest of the 21st century, will cross North Africa under some of the clearest summer skies in the world.
While the path of totality passes through central Tunisia, the Hammamet region and Dar Jbel will experience a deep partial eclipse of up to 98.2% obscuration, over a total phenomenon lasting more than two and a half hours, from around 8:56 AM to 11:29 AM (local time). The sky will darken dramatically, the temperature will drop, and the olive trees of the estate will stand still in a rare, golden light.
At Dar Jbel, nestled among olive trees in an exceptional Mediterranean garden, we invite astronomy enthusiasts, photographers, and the curious to experience this phenomenon in a setting that celebrates both science and culture — through the ancient concept of the Khoussouf, the Arabic name given to a solar eclipse.

Why Choose Dar Jbel for the 2027 Eclipse?
Far from crowded cities and mass tourism, Dar Jbel offers:
-
An open horizon and wide-open landscapes, ideal for observation
-
A peaceful countryside atmosphere, just minutes from Hammamet
-
Authentic Tunisian hospitality
-
A limited number of guests, for an intimate and memorable experience
-
A cultural immersion that goes beyond simply watching the sky
-
The option to join the 100% totality zone as an add-on
Many eclipse chasers travel thousands of kilometers in search of meaningful places to experience totality. Dar Jbel offers more than accommodation — it offers immersion in Tunisian traditions surrounding the Khoussouf (eclipse, in Arabic).

Day 2 — The Koussouf Vigil
As anticipation builds, guests gather for an evening devoted to the cultural and spiritual heritage of eclipses:

Introduction to the astronomy of the 2027 eclipse

-
Wood-fired bread, made in the traditional way
-
Tasting of estate-grown olive oil, harissa, and olives
-
Squid-ink pasta with seafood

Day 3 — Eclipse Morning
Breakfast from 5:00 AM. Certified solar viewing glasses provided to each guest. A dedicated observation area set up in Dar Jbel's gardens and hills.
As the Moon covers the Sun, guests will witness the landscape's shifting colors, the sudden coolness in the air, unusual bird behavior, and the striking, gradual darkening of daylight. Photography enthusiasts are welcome to bring tripods and telephoto lenses.
"Totality Chase" Option (on request, additional cost)
For purists seeking full totality — when the Sun disappears completely and the solar corona becomes visible — Dar Jbel offers an optional excursion to the path of totality, in the Mahdia region, about 2 hours' drive from the estate. Totality there lasts several minutes, in a striking darkness before daylight gradually returns.
Guests choosing this option will depart from Dar Jbel early in the morning on a dedicated, pre-bookable transfer, reach the totality zone in time for the event, and return to Dar Jbel afterward for the after-party.
The exact coordinates of the observation point within the path of totality will be confirmed closer to the date, once access and visibility conditions have been verified on-site.
The Eclipse After Party
As daylight returns, it's time to celebrate: a relaxed poolside brunch, fresh juices and local wines, Mediterranean barbecue, and a DJ set with downtempo and world music sounds. Sun loungers, conversation, and sharing photos and emotions from the morning.
A keepsake certificate will be presented: "I experienced the Great Eclipse of 2027 at Dar Jbel, Hammamet, Tunisia."
Day 4 — A Gentle Departure
Morning yoga. Breakfast. Optionally, an olive oil tasting or Tunisian cooking workshop. Late checkout available.
