Solar Eclipse Tunisia 2027: Experience the Khoussouf at Dar Jbel

The Great Solar Eclipse of August 2, 2027, at Dar Jbel

🇫🇷 Lire cette page en français →

On Monday, August 2, 2027, the Tunisian sky will host one of the most extraordinary celestial events of the century. This total solar eclipse, among the longest of the 21st century, will cross North Africa under some of the clearest summer skies in the world.

While the path of totality passes through central Tunisia, the Hammamet region and Dar Jbel will experience a deep partial eclipse of up to 98.2% obscuration, over a total phenomenon lasting more than two and a half hours, from around 8:56 AM to 11:29 AM (local time). The light will dim and change color, the air will cool, and the olive trees of the estate will bathe in a rare light.

At Dar Jbel, nestled among olive trees in an exceptional Mediterranean garden, we invite astronomy enthusiasts, photographers and the curious to experience this phenomenon in a setting that celebrates both science and culture, through the ancient concept of the Khoussouf, the Arabic name for a solar eclipse.

FAQ — Solar Eclipse 2027 at Dar Jbel

Will I see totality from Dar Jbel? No. From Dar Jbel, the eclipse will be partial, with up to 98.2% of the Sun covered — already a stunning spectacle.

Is special equipment required? Yes, certified ISO 12312-2 solar viewing glasses are essential for looking at the Sun safely, except during the few minutes of full totality (in the totality zone only). These glasses are provided to all our guests.

Can I rent or buy glasses on-site? Certified glasses are included in the stay. Additional pairs will be available on request for larger groups.

Is the excursion to the totality zone included in the stay? No and we want to be transparent with you. To ensure the quality of your stay, we have chosen to focus the experience at the Dar Jbel estate, where the eclipse will reach 98.2% coverage at 10:10 AM. Here, we oversee every detail—this is what defines the essence of Dar Jbel. Consequently, we will not be organizing any travel to the zone of totality.

When is the best time to book? As early as possible. Accommodation near major eclipses is typically booked 12 to 24 months in advance, and Dar Jbel intentionally limits the number of guests.

Will the weather be clear in August? Tunisia generally enjoys favorable summer weather, with often-clear skies — a point frequently noted by specialists for this eclipse. However, no forecast can be guaranteed this far in advance.

Is the stay suitable for families and astronomy beginners? Absolutely. The experience is designed to be accessible to everyone: astronomy enthusiasts and curious first-timers alike, whether traveling as a family or with friends.
